Nope! You can use your own tags. You just need an NFC writer application for your smartphone. Many people buy a few to expairment with. TagXD allows you to use both. Each has their purpose and advantages and disadvantages. We even let you create QR Code fall-backs for your NFC tags so if the situation is better suited to use a QR code, you can still track the analytics of that physical touchpoint. 

Everytime someone scans, taps, or visits via a direct link, an action is logged. You can view the total number of taps, taps over time, and even by time of day or day of week.
